Biographical History
An architect born in Scotland, educated in Scotland and England, Burgess came to Canada in 1903. He was the resident architectural consultant of the University of Alberta from 1913 to 1940, as well as a Professor of Architecture. He supervised the construction of the Arts and Medical Sciences Building and designed and supervised the construction of Pembina Hall. He served as a member of the Town Planning Commission of the City of Edmonton (1929-1949). He received an honorary degreee from the University of Alberta in 1958.
