Attorney for George Washington's estates in western Pennsylvania, U.S. senator from Pennsylvania. As one of the federal commissioners appointed to negotiate a settlement to the Whiskey Rebellion he was largely responsible for its peaceful conclusion.
James Ross was a lawyer and politician from Pennsylvania who served as a U.S. Senator from that state from 1794 to 1803.
