Biographical History

Frederick Campbell Crews was born on February 20, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Yale University, A.B., in 1955; and from Princeton University, Ph.D., in 1958. He married Elizabeth Peterson on September 9, 1959. They have two daughters. Crews has been teaching English at the University of California, Berkeley, since 1958. He was a Fulbright lecturer at the University of Turin, Italy, during 1961-1962. He is a member of the Modern Language Association of America and the National Council of Teachers of English. He was awarded a fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies, Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Science for 1965-1966; received a National Endowment for the Arts essay prize in 1967; and, received a Guggenheim fellowship in 1970-1971. Crews currently resides in Berkeley, California.
