Biographical History
A group of historians, researchers and writers who share an interest in women's history in the American West.
The Coalition for Western Women's History (CWWH) is a group of historians, researchers, and writers who shared an interest in women's history in the American West. The formation of the CWWH coincided with the first national meeting devoted to western women's history, The Women's West, in Sun Vally, Idaho on August 10-13, 1983.
During the second conference, The Women's West in 1984 (held in Park City, Utah on August 14-15, 1984), the coalition decided to become a membership organization, publish a newsletter, and incorporate as a tax exempt group.
The third conference, The Women's West: Race, Class and Social Change, took place in San Francisco, California on August 13-16, 1987. The University of Oklahoma Press published The Women's West, a compilation of papers presented during the 1983 conference, in the same year. It went on to publish Susan H. Armitage and Elizabeth Jameson's Writing the Range: Race, Class, and Culture in the Women's West in 1997.
