Biographical History

Emma Holman Scott was a longtime Austin resident who moved to Austin, Texas as a young girl with her mother, and siblings after the death of her father in 1897 in El Paso, Texas. Her mother, Nellie Delaney Holman, was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1858 to Judge William Shelby and Gabriella Shropshire Delaney (DeLaney). She came to Texas at the age of two with her parents and settled in Columbus. After attending B. J. Smith Academy in Austin, Nellie married Robert Holman in 1879 in Columbus. The couple had four children: John T., Henry, Emma and Nellie R. When Nellie moved to Austin with her children her sister, Augusta Delaney Walker, was already in residence with her husband W. B. Walker.

Emma was born in 1894 and married Arthur Scott in 1914. She worked as a teacher at the Bickler School. She died in Austin in 1978. Little else is known about her, because unfortunately, while she was excellent at documenting the lives of her family members, she included very little about herself in the scrapbook.
