Biographical History

Denver Dental School at the University of Denver, Denver, Colorado was operated under an agreement with the Board of Trustees of the University of Denver by a group of local dentists who provided supervision and instruction in the dental department. The school began holding classes in the fall of 1888 at the Haish Building at 14th St. and Arapahoe St. and was one of the first dental schools to educate dental nurses. In 1901 the school merged with the Colorado College of Dental Surgery and retained the new name. Dr. L.S. Gilbert was the first dean and was succeeded by Dr. W.T. Chambers who served until 1914. The school closed in 1932 when attempts to acquire state funding failed.
