Biographical History

John McFarlane Cuthill worked as a land agent and attorney for Del Monte-owned Alaska Packers Association and its successor, DMC Properties Inc, over a period spanning the late 1950s through the early 1990s. The Alaska Packers Association (APA) operated seafood canneries and fishing stations in Alaska and the Puget Sound from the late nineteenth century through the late twentieth century, gradually divesting its interests in the fishing industry and Alaska property from the 1960s onwards.

In March 1982, APA was formally renamed DMC Properties Inc. The renamed subsidiary continued to deal in property and real estate in Alaska. John Cuthill served as superintendent for APA's Clark's Point cannery from 1957-1978, and then as superintendent and real estate manager for DMC Properties. He later worked as a legal consultant for DMC Properties from the late 1980s through the early 1990s.
