Biographical History

Alexander Hamilton (1712 - 1756), a graduate of the University of Edinburgh, moved to Maryland in 1739. He practiced medicite and owned an apothecary in Annapolis and was also known as a musician, poet, journalist, and satirst, the founder of the Tuesday Club in Anapolis (1745). On May 30, 1744, Hamilton and his black servant Dromo embarked on a tour of northern colonies. They returned to Annapolis on Sept. 27, having made 1624 miles through Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. In November 1744, Hamilton gave a a revised copy of his Itinerarium to Onorio Razolini, an Italian who had lived in Maryland since 1717. Razolini returned to Italy in 1749 and took the diary with him.
