Biographical History
Abilene, Texas attorney, rancher, oil man and local historian. Born Abilene, Texas, 1892. Attended Hardin-Simmons University, and later the University of Texas Law School. World War I veteran and served with the Texas National Guard. After war practiced law. Served in the Texas legislature, 1931-1934. Supported legislation that helped create Texas Canyon State Park (Big Bend). Though an active Democrat, bolted in 1952 to support Dwight Eisenhower's 1952 Presidential candidacy. Professor of Business Administration at Hardin-Simmons, 1948-1959. Vehemently opposed rising foreign crude oil import quotas, and supported depletion allowance. Member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, and the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association. Served as director of the West- Central Texas Oil and Gas Association, the Independent Petroleum Association of America, and the Texas Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association. Also a member of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce, the Water Development Committee, and Water, Inc.. Also, authored history articles for the West Texas Historical Association. Married Texas Orms - two children. Died, 1973.
