Biographical History

January 17, 1941 the Tri-City Federation of Labor resolved to create a women's organization to promote the purchase of union goods and increase union membership in the area. The Womens' Auxiliary to the Tri-City Federation of Labor officially began work on April 4, 1941 as the Women's Trade Union League. In June 1942 it changed its name at the request of the national association, the American Federation of Women's Auxiliaries of Labor. The group hosted parties, raised money for charity, provided strike support and lobbied for union causes.
