Biographical History

Crandell worked as a wildlife refuge manager, wildlife biologist and planning officer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. From 1970 to 1975, he was Director of Wilderness Reviews for the Wilderness Society where he worked to coordinate the Society's involvement in issues related to Alaska, and with the Alaska Coalition. In 1975, he became a consultant to the Subcommittee on Public Land, U.S. House of Representatives, under John Seiberling and Morris Udall. He was deeply involved in the legislation to settle the Native Alaskan's land claims, and the designation of wilderness areas in Alaska and the lower 48 states.
