Biographical History

George C. Boniface (183 -1912) a New York City born actor, made his first professional appearance at the Falk Theater in Baltimore, in 1851. He played principally tragedy roles. His last performance was in New York, in the play “Mid-Channel” with Ethel Barrymore. Boniface had three children: Symona, Ferner and George, Jr.

George C. Boniface, Jr. (1861-1917), actor and theater manager, began his professional career as a call boy at the Boston Theater in 1876. The following year he made his first stage appearance with John T. Raymond in “Colonel Sellers.” Boniface later went into comic opera.

Joseph Stevens Jones (1811-1877) was a playwright and actor. For a time, Jones was manager of the Tremont Theater in Boston, where he made some of his earliest appearances on the stage.

Nathaniel Dexter Jones (1838-1912), son of Joseph Stevens, was also a playwright and theater manager. At the age of seventy-four, Jones, who in his day was known throughout the country, was Boston's oldest actor. He was a member of the Howard Athenaeum Stock Co. for many years and was connected with the stage for a total of fifty-two years.

Nathaniel married Mollie Newton, member of the famous Newton Sisters.

The second generation Bonifaces were nieces and nephews of Nathaniel Dexter Jones.
