Biographical History
Born in 1926, Daniel Troen Moe earned the B.A. from Concordia College (Moorhead, MN) in 1949, the M.A. from the University of Washington in 1952, and the Ph. D. from the University of Iowa in 1961. Known for his work as a guest conductor and choral clinician, Moe also composed over 40 published compositions, as well as two books on conducting. He has written orchestral, choral and chamber works and was the recipient of several commissions. After earning the Ph. D. from the University of Iowa, Moe stayed on and inaugurated what became known as a nationally recognized graduate program in choral literature and conducting. In 1972 he joined the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music faculty, serving there until until 1992. At Oberlin he conducted the Oberlin College Choir, the Tappan Singers and the Musical Union, in addition to teaching and composing. Upon leaving Oberlin Moe retired to Florida where he continues composing and conducts the Key Chorale in Sarasota.
Born at Minot, N.D., moved to Fargo, N.D. when his father was assigned to Olivet Lutheran Church. Graduated Fargo Central High School, Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949 from Concordia College, graduate work at Hamline University, Saint Paul, Minn., Master of Arts degree from University of Washington, director of music at University of Denver, 1953-1959, University of Iowa, 1961-1972, and currently at Oberlin College.
