Biographical History
Clarence M. Weed was a New England based naturalist, specializing in economic entomology and botany, with an interest also in ornithology.
Weed began his career in 1888 at the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station, where he was entomologist and professor. In 1891 he moved to the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts, and in 1904 to the State Teachers College at Lowell, Mass., eventually serving as principal, 1922-1932, and president, 1932-1935. Weed was also regional director of the U.S. School Garden Army, 1918-1920, and, beginning in 1922, was secretary and manager of the Moses Greeley Parker Lectures. He was the author or coauthor of more than 20 books, many of them on insect pests and insect-plant relationships.
