Biographical History

Central Illinois Annual Conference, held in Decatur, Ill., was a part of the second highest governing body in a denomination formed from the meeting of Mennonite minister, Jacob Boehm, and German Reform minister, Philip Otterbein in Lancaster, Pa. in 1767. The highest governing body was the General Conference. The function of the Annual Conference was to oversee and select ministers for the local churches, to hear reports on the pastors and pass on their character and ability and to ordain ministers after they had passed examinations. The church had its own publishing company located in Dayton, Ohio.
