Biographical History
William Chapman Ralston, San Francisco businessman and financier, was born in Plymouth, Ohio, in 1826. He arrived in San Francisco in 1854, and ten years later, when he organized the Bank of California, he became one of the most important and powerful men in California. He died in San Francisco in 1875.
William Chapman Ralston, born 12 June 1826 in Ohio, was a banker and steamship owner. In 1864 he helped organize the Bank of California and served as its first president. He died 27 August 1875.
