Walter Lynwood Fleming (1874-1932) was professor of history at various universities in the U.S. including West Virginia University, Louisiana State University and Vanderbilt University, in addition to serving as dean of arts and sciences at Louisiana State and director of graduate work at Vanderbilt. He wrote and edited numerous publications.
Educator, historian.
Fleming earned B.S. (1896) and M.S. (1897) degrees from the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama, later Auburn University. He studied under William H. Dunning at Columbia University for his Ph. D. in history (1904). His doctoral dissertation, "The Civil War and Reconstruction in Alabama," was published in 1905. He was on the faculties of West Virginia, Louisiana State, Columbia and Vanderbilt Universities.
Walter Lynwood Fleming received a B.S. in 1896 and an M.S. in 1897, both from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical College, and a Ph.D. in 1904 from Columbia University. He served on the faculties of several universities in the South as a professor of English and history, including Louisiana State University from 1907 to 1917. Fleming was a prolific writer and a pioneer in the field of Reconstruction history.
