Biographical History

The Means family of Ashland, Kentucky was prominent in the iron, coal, and banking industries in the Hanging Rock region of southern Ohio and eastern Kentucky. They played a dominant role in the development of both river and rail transportation and in the formation of Ashland as an industrial city. In addition to their business endeavors, they were also active in various civic and religious organizations.
