Biographical History

Leeman Road was the site of the first branch school in York, formed in 1891. A Social Club followed around 1895, and women's and children's classes a year later. In 1899, a Sick Club was also started for scholars. Its attendance figures were 93 men and 34 women in 1902. For the period 1908 to 1925, Quaker worship, with a full Preparative Meeting, was held at the school. The school closed around 1928 and its property taken over by trustees. The premises suffered war damage during the Second World War.
