Biographical History

The Kell family lived in Sunny Side, Georgia near Griffin, Georgia. John McIntosh Kell was Captain of the Confederate ship, "Alabama." He was married to Blanche Monroe. They had six children, two sons and four daughters, who lived to adulthood. The Kell family was spread throughout Georgia, and letters were often written to Athens, Valdosta, Tifton, and Jessup. Beginning in 1881, Kell served as Adjutant General of Georgia. He kept this position until his death in 1900. Also beginning in 1881, Kell served as the keeper of public buildings and grounds at the state capitol. This position continued into the mid 1890s.
