Biographical History

St. John's Preparatory School was started in 1870 as the Preparatory Division of St. John's College. It was later known as the High School Dept. of the College, and then as St. John's Academy or St. John's High School. It ended its affiliation with St. John's University in 1958 but continued to operate under the religious order of the Vincentians until 1972 when the Brooklyn Diocese took control of the building and established the New High School.
