Biographical History
Gordon L. Harris was a civilian public information officer at Redstone Arsenal during the early years of the United States (U.S.) space program.
Born 1909. Graduated from Columbia College in New York in 1930 with a B.A. Began newspaper work in Dover, N.J. as editor of a semiweekly newspaper. In 1944 he became assistant to the intelligence and public information officer at Picatinny Arsenal. Volunteered for Army service and became chief of the Counter Intelligence Corps detachment in the Philippine Islands. After the war, he returned to the newspaper business in Dover until 1953 when he returned to military duty as a Major at Picatinny Arsenal and later as assistant inspector general 8th U.S. Army in Korea. He left the newspaper business in 1956 to becaome chief of management engineering at Picatinny Arsenal. Became the public information officer for the following agencies: Army Ballistic Missile Agency, 1956-1958; Army Ordnance Missile Command, 1958-1960 and also represented NASA at the Command for space projects assigned there; Army Ordnance Corps, 1960; Defense Supply Agency; John F. Kennedy Space Center, 1963-1974. Retired from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in 1974.
