Biographical History

Bishop Grigoriĭ (George Grabbe) was Secretary of the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad from 1931 until 1986. Son of Colonel Pavel Mikhailovich Grabbe, George Grabbe was born in 1902 in St. Petersburg. After having been ordained to the priesthood, Fr. George was appointed secretary of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad (ROCA) in 1931. After the death of his wife in 1978 Fr. George took monastic vows, accepted the name Grigorii, and was ordained bishop in 1979. He was a prolific writer, lecturer, and a foremost canonist of ROCA.
