Biographical History

Anne M. Burke, Justice, Illinois Appellate Court, First District, is an alumna of DePaul and has served on DePaul University's Board of Trustees since 1999. Her interest in and concern for the rights of children in society began in 1965, when she was one of the first to teach physical education for mentally challenged children through the Chicago Park District. She began her judicial career in 1987 on the Illinois Court of Claims. She was appointed Special Counsel for Child Welfare Services in 1994. She continued her advocacy for children's issues in her service on the National Review Board for the Protection of Children and Young People (NRB), appointed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) of the U.S. Roman Catholic Church to study issues raised in the clergy sex abuse scandal. She served as interim chair of the NRB from 2002 to 2004.
