Biographical History
John Charlton Steen was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland, in 1898, the son of a teacher. He was educated at Paisley Grammar School, Paisley, and the University of Glasgow where he received an MA. He served in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and later in the 2/1 Lanarkshire Yeomanry in the Great War from 1917-1919. He briefly lectured in Italian and Comparative Literature at the University of Glasgow in the 1922-1923 session before being licensed by the Presbytery of Glasgow in 1927, the same year in which he married. From 1920 he was minister at Lockerbie Dryfesdale, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, moving to Renton Union church in 1957. He died in 1967 .
