Biographical History
John Rattan, born 1718, was a soldier in the American Revolutionary War, and died in 1792. His descendant, Thomas Rattan, was born in South Carolina on October 4, 1789. A civic leader and landowner, Thomas Rattan was among the first settlers in Illinois. He owned land in Greene County, Illinois. Thomas Rattan moved to Texas in the 1840's, settling in the Collin County area. He and his wife, Gilliam Hill Rattan, had 14 children. Their daughter Anna married James Webb Throckmorton, who was governor of Texas from 1866 to 1867. Thomas Rattan died on November 11, 1854.
