Biographical History
George Christian Gebelein, perhaps America's foremost silversmith of the 20th century, has been referred to as "the modern Paul Revere."
His professional work began in 1893 with Goodnow and Jenks of Boston, MA. In 1909 he opened his own studio in Boston. During his 50 year career, Gebelein's work was displayed in exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Currier Gallery of Art. He was awarded the Master Craftsman's Medal by the Boston Society of Arts and Crafts, and garnered other honors from the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Panama Pacific Exposition of 1915. Apart from commissions from private individuals, his silver work is at the chapel at West Point, the College of William and Mary, and the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
