Biographical History
The educational and recreational activities of Boulder's youth were enhanced by the club's fund drives for a children's corner at the Boulder Public Library, and for playground equipment. The formation of a Boys and Girls Club was a Woman's Club project. This led to the organization of vocational training and home economics classes in the public schools. Financial support was also given to the University for a W.C.B. scholarship fund.
Among its early civic projects were a push for better sanitation conditions in Boulder; the donation of trees and shrubs for the Chautauqua grounds, the University campus and the Boulder County courthouse grounds; the purchase of a town clock for the courthouse; and the donation of benches for important street corners.
The Woman's Club of Boulder was incorporated in 1901 with two purposes in mind: to serve the community as a public service organization and as a forum for widening the intellectual and social horizons of women. The movement to form the Boulder Woman' s Club was spearheaded by one hundred women from other groups in Boulder: the Fortnightly Club, the Friday Musical Society, Hypatia, and the auxiliaries of several fraternal organizations.
