Biographical History
Beginning in 1963, Paul O'Dwyer served as Manhattan Councilman-At-Large until 1965. In 1968, he was the U.S. Senate Democratic nominee. From 1973 to 1978 he served as City Council President of New York, and in 1986, he was appointed Manhattan Borough Historian. O'Dwyer was appointed Commissioner of the Commission for the United Nations and Consular Corps. by Mayor David Dinkins on March 16, 1990 and served in that post until December 31, 1991. Paul O'Dwyer is also the younger brother of William O'Dwyer, who served as New York City Mayor from 1946 to 1950.
