Biographical History
Pawnee Bill was a Wild West show impresario and late contemporary of Buffalo Bill Cody, with whom he was in partnership between 1908 and 1913.
Gordon W. Lillie (1860-1942) was born in Illinois and worked as an interpreter and schoolteacher at the Pawnee Indian Agency in what is now Oklahoma, starting in 1878. He later worked as an interpreter for the Pawnee Indians who worked in Buffalo Bill's wild west show and established his own wild west show as Pawnee Bill. The company performed in Europe and the U.S. with his wife May Lillie, a champion shot, until 1913. After touring, Pawnee Bill established a trading post and buffalo ranch in Pawnee, Oklahoma and speculated in the oil industry.
