Biographical History
James Del Rio was born on Jan. 30, 1924, in Detroit, Mich. He attended the University of Michigan and the Detroit College of Law. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Union Baptist Seminary, Birmingham, Ala. He is a former mortgage broker, real estate broker and insurance executive, a trustee of the New Bethel Church. He was named Michigan Industrial Ambassador by Gov. John Swainson in 1961, was a member of the Mayor's Committee on Industrial and Commercial Development of Detroit, and was appointed financial consultant for the U.S. Foreign Trade Mission in 1962. He was elected to the State House of Representatives at a special election on May 10, 1965 and re-elected in 1966 and 1968.
