Biographical History
The Long Lake Improvement Association was founded to identify those factors in the local environment, which affect the recreational use of Long Lake, and to take appropriate action to improve, preserve and protect the quality of Long Lake as a recreational asset to local property owners and the community. The membership was restricted to those persons, businesses or groups owning or holding leases of greater than one year on land fronting on Long Lake or on roads or streets having legal, individual or direct access to the lake. When Long Lake Improvement Association changed its name to Lakes Improvement Association (LIA) in Feb. 1980, their purpose and membership changed slightly as well. The LIA consisted of Hicks Lake, Patterson Lake, Long Lake and Lois Lake. LIA would monitor the lakes and take appropriate action to improve, preserve, and protect the quality of these lakes as recreational and aesthetic assets. The membership of LIA had two classifications: Regular and Associate. The associate memberships were non-residents that wished to participate in the Association.
