Biographical History
The Central State Teachers College (CMU) Athletic Field Corporation was established in 1930 to plan, finance, purchase, equip, and complete a "new" athletic field for CMU. Most of the Board members were faculty members who had a view of the future for CMU. The Board was composed of five members of the CMU faculty: Pres. Warriner, Park G. Lantz (Superintendent of the Training School); and professors Charles C. Barnes (Commerce); Charles F. Tambling (Athletic Director and coach); and Wallace C. Parker (Mathematics) initially, with Prof. George DePuy (Athletics) completing Prof. Tambling's term on the board. For further information on Warriner, Anspach, and Lantz, see their collections, which are housed in the Clarke. Obituaries for Barnes, Parker, and Tambling are included with the collection. In 1957, Finch was the Head of what was then called the Physical Education Dept., later Athletics. Buildings on campus have been named in honor of Barnes, Warriner, Finch, and Anspach.
