Biographical History

The Louisiana Purchase Exposition was held in St. Louis in 1904 to commemorate the purchase of the Louisiana Territory by the United States from France in 1803. The Illinois State Commission was created in 1901 to assume responsibility for the preparation and supervision of exhibits for the State of Illinois and the construction and furnishing of a building to house the exhibit.
