Biographical History

Senta Jonas Rypins (1894-1966) was born in New York City, attended Ethical Culture schools and Barnard College and lived in New York until her marriage to Harold L. Rypins (1892-1939), who became the Secretary of the State Board of Medical Examiners in Albany. Mrs. Rypins, despite a severe early hearing loss, translated and edited medical textbooks, assisted in the production of the Questions and Answers to the State Board of Medical Examiners, wrote articles on medical subjects, and translated children's books. In the 1940s she wrote a history of the care of the insane for the New York Department of Mental Health.
