Biographical Sketch

Patrick William McDonough was born in San Francisco on February 20, 1888. He worked as a boilermaker from 1909 to 1913, when he became a foreman and began to study law. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1917. In 1924 he founded the McDonough Steel Company in Oakland. He was active in local and statewide Democratic Party politics, served as Chairman of the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee, as Northern California Chairman of the Business & Professional Men's League for Roosevelt (1940), and ran unsuccessfully for State Senator from the 16th District in 1942 and for U.S. Congressman from the 7th District in 1946. From 1945 to 1946 he served as national director of the Smaller War Plants Corporation.
