English classical scholar.
Sir Richard Claverhouse Jebb (1841-1905), English classical scholar, was born at Dundee, England. He was educated at Charterhouse and at Trinity College, Cambridge. At Trinity College he was a Fellow, 1863-1905; Assistant Tutor, 1865-1875; and Tutor, 1872-1874. He was Professor of Greek at Glasgow University, 1875-1889; Regius Professor of Greek at Cambridge University, 1889-1905; MP for Cambridge University 1891-1905. He was knighted in 1900.
Classicist; Regius Professor of Greek at Cambridge and Member of Parliament for Cambrige; author, translator of Sophocles and among the founders of the British School of Archaeology at Athens.
Professor of Greek at the University of Glasgow in Scotland.
