U.S. representative from Louisiana, army officer, and lawyer.
Eleazer Wheelock Ripley served in the United States Army as a general in the War of 1812, and practiced law in New Orleans and West Feliciana Parish, La. after resigning his commission in 1820. He was a member of the Louisiana Senate in 1832, and was later elected to the U. S. Congress in 1835 where he served until his death.
Ripley, a Massachusetts lawyer and legislator, was a general during the War of 1812 and remained in the U.S. Army until 1820. He settled in Louisiana and served in the U.S. Congress (1835-1839).
