Biographical History

Thomas Henry Haden, educator and Methodist missionary, was born 14 February 1863, in Palmyra, Virginia, and died 3 November 1946, in McIntosh, Florida. In 1895, Haden received his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt University, married Jennie Conwell, and left for Japan to begin a career as a missionary for the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. He was assigned to the Tadotsu Circuit but became a professor (1896-1940) and dean of theology at the Kwansei Gakuin (University) in Kobe, Japan; he was also in evangelistic work for three years. In the summer of 1921, he taught two courses at Emory University. He retired to McIntosh, Florida, with his second wife, Annette Gist, in May 1940.
