Biographical History

Waite Hoyt, born in Brooklyn in 1899, was a pitcher for several professional baseball teams from 1918 to 1938. From 1942 to 1965 he was a play-by-play announcer for the Cincinnati Reds. He was particularly known for the entertaining baseball stories he told during rain delays. Hoyt also appeared on the vaudeville stage and had a television program on WCET. During retirement, Hoyt began painting as a hobby.
