Biographical History
Born in Detroit on November 20, 1848, William C. Maybury graduated from the academic department of the University of Michigan in 1870 and from the law department in 1871. That year he was admitted to the Michigan bar and began to practice law in Detroit. He worked as a city attorney from 1876-1880, lectured on medical jurisprudence at Michigan College of Medicine, Detroit, 1881-1882; and was a member of the U.S. Congress 1883-1887. Maybury was elected mayor of Detroit in 1897, serving until 1905. William C. Maybury died in Detroit on May 6, 1909. (from Biog. Cong. Dir.) (blue index cards)
Maybury (Nov. 20, 1849-May 5, 1909), served as a member of Congress from Detroit (Mich.), 1883-1885 and 1885-1887, City Attorney for Detroit, 1875-1880, and Mayor of Detroit (for three terms beginning in 1897).
