Biographical History
Lawyer and public servant. Born 1814 and died 1867 in Saltillo, Mexico. Fuente ended his practice of law in 1837; he was elected deputy for Coahuila to the Congreso de la Unión in 1840. In 1853 Fuente resigned his post as Ministro de Relaciones under President Juan Bautista Ceballos. He was a member of the Congreso Constituyente in 1856-1857. In 1857 President Ignacio Comonfort named Fuente Ministro de Hacienda; at the end of the year he became Ministro de Relaciones. In 1859 Fuente became Ministro de Justicia for President Benito Juárez. As Minister to France for the liberal government of Mexico in 1861-1862, Fuente protested strongly but to no avail the actions of the French preceding their invasion of Mexico. In 1862 Fuente held the posts of Ministro de Relaciones and Gobernación. Appointed ambassador to the United States in 1863, Fuente never took up the post because he was called by Juárez to head the defense of Coahuila and Nuevo León from French invasion. The last office Fuente held was that of jefe político of Parras, Coahuila, which in 1868 was renamed Parras de la Fuente in his honor.
