Biographical History

Lillian Mary Westropp (1884-1968) and Clara E. Westropp (1886-1965) founded The Women's Savings and Loan Company of Cleveland, Ohio in 1922 to provide a bank run by women for women. LMW was president, Olive Joy Wright vice-president and CEW secretary. In 1935 the bank's name was changed to Women's Federal Savings and Loan Association and it continues under this name.

LMW was also judge of the municipal court of Cleveland from 1931 to 1959. CEW became president of the bank in 1958. She was also first woman president of the Cuyahoga County Savings and Loan League (1952), and was active in Catholic missionary fund-raising work, for which she was made Catholic Woman of the Year posthumously in 1965.
