Biographical History
John Percival Jones, born in Herefordshire, England, in 1829, grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, before migrating west during the 1849 gold rush. Jones served as a U.S. Senator for the state of Nevada for thirty years (1873-1903).
John P. Jones, mining investor and land speculator, earned his fortune in the silver mines of western Nevada after an unsuccessful bid for Lieutenant Governor of California. In 1873 Jones became a U. S. Senator for Nevada, a seat he held for thirty years. During his political career, Jones retained financial interest in several California and Nevada companies.
