Biographical History
Daniel Huntington was a portrait, historical, and landscape painter. Born Oct. 14, 1816 in New York City, Huntington was a student at Hamilton College from 1832 to 1836. He studied under S.F.B. Morse and Henry Inman and then went to Europe in 1839 and again from 1842 to 1845, spending most of his time in Rome. Elected a National Academician in 1840, Huntington served twice as President of the National Academy, from 1862 to 1870 and from 1877 to 1890. He died in New York City on April 18, 1906.

Daniel Huntington was a portrait, historical, and landscape painter. Born in New York City in 1816, he attended Hamilton College from 1832 to 1836. He studied art under Samuel F.B. Morse and Henry Inman in New York City and then continued his training in Europe in 1839 and from 1842 to 1845. In 1840, Huntington was elected a National Academician and served twice as President of the National Academy, from 1862 to 1870 and from 1877 to 1890. He died in New York City in 1906.
