Biographical History

Grace Berg Schaible has long served the State of Alaska, the University of Alaska, and her home community of Fairbanks, Alaska. Born Grace Berg in Tacoma, Washington, in 1925, she was raised in Juneau, Alaska, and graduated from the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines (now the University of Alaska Fairbanks) in 1949. Upon earning a degree from Yale Law School in 1959, she went into private law practice in Fairbanks, Alaska. Her many positions in public service have included University of Alaska regent (1985-1987), attorney general for the State of Alaska (1987-1989), chair of the Board of Trustees for the Alaska Permanent Fund (1995-1997), and president of the University of Alaska Foundation (1998-2003).
