Legislation and first Chief Justice of Australia. 1871 he was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly as the representative for East Moreton. Premier of Queensland 1883-1888 and 1890-1893. Chief Justice of Queensland from 1893. Lieutenant Governor of Queensland 1899-1903. Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia 1903-1919.
First Chief Justice of Australia, born in Wales, came to Australia, 1854. Called to the Queensland Bar 1867, became M.L.A. 1874. Premier of Queensland, 1883-1888 and 1890-1893, when he became Chief Justice of Queensland. Became Chief Justice of Australia when the High Court was constituted, 1903.
