Biographical History
Henry Guyer was born ca. 1840. In 1860 he left Newark, New Jersey, to work as a metal craftsman in Haydenville, Massachusetts. At the start of the Civil War, he enlisted as a private in the 10th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteers, which served as part of the Army of the Potomac, 1861-1862. In 1862 he received an officer's commission in the 13th Regiment, New Jersey Volunteers. He served as lieutenant and as captain of Company F, 1862-1865, during the Regiment's service in Tennessee and in Sherman's March to the Sea and March Through the Carolinas.
