Biographical History

John Pawson was born in England in November 1737. He became a Methodist preacher in 1762 and was ordained by John Wesley in 1785 for ministry in Scotland. He returned to England in 1787. After John Wesley's death, Pawson mediated controversies concerning the administration of the Sacraments. In 1797 he revised Wesley's "Large Minutes" and this revision was accepted as the official statement of Methodist discipline. Pawson served as President of the British Methodist Conference in 1793 and again in 1801. He died on March 19, 1806.
