Biographical History
Thomas J. Davies was born at Summer Hill, a property in South Carolina across the Savannah River from Augusta, Georgia. He served as a staff officer in the Confederate States Army and helped develop the kaolin mining industry in Aiken County, S.C., after the Civil War. After his death he was buried in the Hammond family cemetery in Beech Island near his brother-in-law, James Henry Hammond.
Planter and businessman of Beech Island, formerly located in Edgefield District [now a part of Aiken County, S.C.]; served as S.C. Representative from Aiken County in S.C. General Assembly, 1878-1880 and 1882-1883.
